CCC Race Report - 15th/16th October 2022 - Silverstone

The final round of the city car cup was held at the renowned Silverstone Circuit on the 15th/16th October, on the international layout. This took advantage of the F1 pitlane and garages, which was an incredibly exciting experience in itself. We were hoping to rectify the shortcomings of Croft by maximising our performance and try to finish the season on a high.

After arriving late Thursday evening, I was ready to participate in my first and only Friday practice session of the season, to spend some time getting comfortable with the car and circuit before qualifying and races over the weekend. Friday started incredibly wet and damp, with the rain still falling up until lunch time.

Thorough preparation had assisted us in getting quickly up to speed in the car, even considering the conditions. After a slight mishap with air flow in the car, causing the windscreen to fog up and being incredibly difficult to see, the pace was certainly there to fight not only in the top ten, but right at the sharp end of the grid.

In qualifying on Saturday morning, I managed to replicate the pace in practice by putting my Citroen C1 3rd position, which was my highest of the season. I was feeling confident and ready to fight for a podium finish in the first race.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. I was taken out by the championship leader early on in the race and had to settle for a 15th place. It was a frustrating start to the weekend, but I was determined to bounce back in race 2.

Starting from 15th on the grid, I knew I had my work cut out for me. But I put my head down and charged through the field to 9th position, but the gaps were too large out ahead with the short race format. It was a great comeback and showed that I still had the pace to compete with the front runners.

In the final race of the season, I made a couple of positions before the safety car was deployed due to a crash. The race ended under the safety car, and I finished in a respectable P8.

All in all, it's been a fantastic season. I've learned a lot and had some great experiences along the way. I'm looking forward to what the future holds and can't wait to get back on the track next season. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way.
